Our Background

Our Background

emberin is an organization that focuses on creating more successful and less stressful lives for women.  This site is a place where you can come to learn, to contribute and to gather the skills you need to be the best you can be. One of the key components of our plan is to also assist employers with their strategies in making workplaces better places for women to work.

The global issue that we are focused on is that we just do not have enough women in senior management positions in our major companies. Indeed, Australia has some of the worst statistic in the Western world with only 8.6% of board positions in the top 200 ASX and women accounted for only 12% of all executive managerial positions in the top 200 ASX companies in 2006 (Australian Bureau of Statistics.) Yet for those of us who are 15 and over – 57% of us work and 72.3% of men work (2006 ABS).

The other shocking statistic is that the gender pay gap is still alive and well. As at November 2006, women’s average weekly earnings ($941) were 84% of men’s average weekly earnings ($1,125). This represents a gender earnings gap of 16%.

We see that there are two prongs of attack to change these dismal stats:

  1. Empower women – we want you to truly believe that you are capable of creating the career you want. We want to help you as much as we can with this goal.
  2. Educate organizations – we want to assist organizations in their quest for more diverse and female friendly work environments. Not because it is the right thing to do – but because it makes economic sense in terms of skill shortages, increased productivity and levels of innovation and customer and client strategies.
We are a company that innovates and does things differently to others. We use technology and other methods that reflect that women have multiple lives. So stay tuned for some radical different ways of addressing the major issues for women and also for companies that are desperate to keep their women!

The emberin Mission

  • To create empowering, positive, practical, no-nonsense products that will challenge the way women approach their work and life.
  • We create products and services that make life easier for women.
  • We empower women with tools that get results in every aspect of the “whole woman”.

Why we are different….?

The company was started by Maureen Frank in 2006 under the name You Go Girlfriend Pty Ltd. At the end of 2007 Maureen decided to rebrand YGG to create emberin Our most important company strengths and core competencies are:
  • We are not HR people – our expertise comes from being a woman who survived the corporate world
  • We are quick on our feet
  • We listen to the clients needs and develop product or tools accordingly
  • We use methods that are unique – e.g. My Mentor uses a CD/DVD and work book; we like to use technology wherever we can.
  • We are practical, relevant and we are no nonsense and brave in our approach. In order to get real results in this area we need to be able to move some people out of their comfort zones. We are not afraid to do this.
  • We make good business sense. We always look at the business case and not the warm and fuzzy reasons for focusing on female staff. Our approach is that retaining and attracting female staff is about ‘marketing to women’ and we use these marketing principles as a basis for discussion.
